SBA AV disaster loan center open

Antelope Valley businesses and residents affected by recent flash flooding and mudslides can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The SBA, in conjunction with the LA County Office of Emergency Management and the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster, is opening a temporary service center to process claims arising from the October 15, 2015, storm.

The Los Angeles County Outreach SBA Disaster Loan Center opens at the former Palmdale Public Safety location at 827 East Avenue Q9, in Palmdale, on Wednesday, November 18. The center will operate Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. During the Thanksgiving holiday, the center will close at noon on Wednesday, November 25 and will re-open at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 30.

The center’s final day will be Thursday, December 3, 2015, closing at 6 p.m.

High wind warning for valleys

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for high winds and very low humidity in northwestern Los Angeles County. The warning is in effect from 9 a.m. Thursday, November 12 through 6 p.m., Friday, November 13.

Gusty northeast winds of 35-40 mph are predicted, with isolated gusts to 45 mph in the hills.  Strongest winds will affect the Santa Clarita Valley, and northern/western portions of the San Fernando Valley.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected.

One-stop assistance for flood area

Residents of flash flood-affected areas of north Los Angeles County can access a one-stop-shop of services and referrals at a temporary Local Assistance Center being set up in Lancaster, in response to the October 15 storm that affected many Antelope Valley communities.

The Local Assistance Center allows residents and businesses to connect with government agencies, utility companies and nonprofits as they recover from storm damage to their properties.

Located in the gymnasium of Joe Walker Middle School, 5632 W. Ave. L-8, in the Quartz Hill area of Lancaster, the Local Assistance Center will be open:

  • Friday, October 30, noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 31, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Persons unable to come to the center or visit during the open hours may also call the 211 LA County line for emergency preparedness information and referral services. The toll-free 2-1-1 number is available 24 hours a day. These services may also be accessed online at 211la.org.
